New law requires businesses to recycle

With the passage of AB 341 on October 6, 2011, businesses are required to recycle. The purpose of the law is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by diverting commercial solid waste to recycling efforts. According to the State, the commercial sector generates nearly three fourths of the solid waste in California.

When will the law take effect?

As of July 1, 2012 企业 that generate four (4) cubic yards or more of waste per week and Multi-Family Residential Properties of five or more units are required to recycle.

Who must comply with the law?

企业 means any commercial or public entity that generates four (4) cubic yards or more of commercial solid waste per week, including but not limited to: a firm, partnership, proprietorship, joint-stock company, corporation or association that is organized as a for-profit or non-profit entity, strip mall (e.g. property complex containing two or more commercial entities), industrial facility, 学校, 学校 district, California State University, community colleges, University of California, special district, or a federal, 状态, 当地的, regional agency or facility.

Multi-Family Residential Properties means any multifamily dwelling, 建筑, or group of 建筑s that contain(s) five or more individual dwelling units on a single tax lot. Multifamily complexes include, but are not limited to, apartment complexes, mobile home parks, senior housing/care facilities and condominium complexes.

How to Comply

  • Subscribe to a Source Separated 回收 Service with the Franchise Hauler authorized to provide service for the area in which the Business is located.
  • Subscribe to a Mixed Solid 浪费 回收 Service with the Franchise Hauler authorized to provide service for the area in which the Business is located.
  • Self recycle and certify compliance with the Ordinance.
